A glimpse of age-specific challenges, rather than the complete mission.
- Your grown-up holds the bowl. You choose a leaf and say: floating, tipping or filling up?
- Add one stone at a time with your adult. Count together; stop at the first wobble.
- Predict which of two leaves will stay drier. Compare your prediction with the ten-second test.
- Make a little cargo tally for both leaves. Note whether each boat tipped or sank.
- Choose two hulls and state which difference you want to test. Note other differences that could affect the result.
- Repeat a loading test if the leaf is still intact. Use the same stones in the same order; explain why a wet or torn leaf might change the result.
What you will need
- 3–4 fallen leaves in different shapes, flexible if possible
- A shallow tray or washing-up bowl with a little water
- 8 small pebbles, roughly the same size
- A towel, paper and a pencil

Activities are written for three age groups: 5–6, 7–8 and 9–10. Children can explore the same topic with different challenges.
Are these printed cards?
No. You buy a digital Explorer-Pack for the Explorer Kids app. The building, observing and experimenting happen in real life.
Which languages are included?
The three existing Explorer-Packs include content in English, German and Spanish.
